Chapter 2 in your textbook introduces Peter Elbow’s “Believing Game,” so let’s play it.  Here’s how:

Graff, Birkenstein, and Durst (2021) ask that you summarize a belief that you strongly disagree with, then write a summary of the position you actually hold. Post both versions (in one post) to this week’s discussion board and see if your classmates “can tell which position you endorse. If you’ve succeeded, they won’t be able to tell.” (Graff, Birkenstein, & Durst, 2021, p. 44).

Note: when posting your summaries, you do not need to post the true version second. It wouldn’t be much of a game if everyone posted the false version first and the true version second.

Each summary should be at least 150 words.

Your summaries should employ some of the templates for introducing summaries from the They Say/I Say textbook. Remember; there is a whole collection of templates at the back of your textbook.

Remember, your job here is to write both summaries in such a way where readers cannot tell which way you lean. An objective tone works best.
