ASSESSMENT 1: Essay 2,500 Words
Online submission by Turnitin:
Find an industry sector/s, for example Textile, Petroleum, Automobile, Electricity, Paper etc. etc. To which a solution to a failing market has been found in terms of an externality of a pollutant produced through production/consumption of a good, e.g., paper, oil, tobacco etc., in a particular country – this could be a tax or regulation that has been put in place, to solve the problem of the externality, which could be for example the release of SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide), tobacco smoke Ozone,. etc. into the atmosphere, or Nitrates into rivers etc. etc.
Then, once selected you show how the market was failing before the solution was put in place, using evidence of real figures (of externality costs for example health costs, ecology damage costs etc. etc.) gleaned from other authors talking about it or government websites, you must also hypothetically show this using basic economic diagramming (use as a demonstration tool without figures).
Next look at the solution, for example a tax on SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide) release or regulation used to correct the market failure and show using information evidence (based on benefits and costs used to decide on the solution and what level was proposed for it, to fix the failing market to take into consideration these externality costs) gleaned from other authors or government websites stating how the market failure was solved through implementation of the solution. Again, you will also need to show hypothetically using basic economic diagramming how the solution works.

Basic summary of how to tackle assessment one below
The way to approach this assessment is to find an industry to which a solution to a failing market has been found in terms of externality for example, of a pollutant produced through production of a good, like petroleum, in a particular country – with the solution being a tax or regulation that has been put in place, to address the problem of the externality, which could be for example the release of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Then once selected you should show how the market was failing before the solution was put in place, using evidence of real figures (of externality costs for example health costs, ecology damage costs etc. etc.) gleaned from other authors talking about it or government websites. Based on this you must also hypothetically show this market externality using the correct diagram (use it as a demonstration tool without data figures) from the week two session one lecture “Modelling Market Failure.” so it will either be
A positive or Negative Production externality,
or a Positive or Negative Consumption externality
Then next you should look at the solution which was used to solve the problem, for example a tax on petroleum producers or regulation used to correct the market failure and show using information evidence (based on benefits and costs used to decide on the solution and what level was proposed to fix the failing market to take into consideration these externality costs (real figures)) these should gleaned from other authors or government websites stating how the market failure was solved through implementation of the solution. Then based on this you must hypothetically show using the correct diagram how your solution would correct the market failure identified (without data figures), taken from week 2 (session 2 ) & week 3 (session 1 & 2)

Are holders of public office subject to Title VII and related laws that prohibit religious discrimination?
Eight state constitutions include restrictions on people who don’t believe in a supreme being. Their constitutions read:
Arkansas
Article 19, section 1: “No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this State, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any Court.”
Maryland
Article 37: “That no religious test ought ever to be required as a qualification for any office of profit or trust in this State, other than a declaration of belief in the existence of God; nor shall the Legislature prescribe any other oath of office than the oath prescribed by this Constitution.”
Mississippi
Article 14, section 265: “No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office in this State.”
North Carolina
Article VI, section 8: “The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.”
Pennsylvania
Article 1, section 4: “No person who acknowledges the being of a God and a future state of rewards and punishments shall, on account of his religious sentiments, be disqualified to hold any office or place of trust or profit under this Commonwealth.”
Note: Pennsylvania differs from the other states in that it says believers cannot be disqualified from holding office for his or her religious sentiments, but that is not extended to atheists.
South Carolina
Article XVII, section 4: “No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office under this Constitution.”
Tennessee
Article IX, section 2: “No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishment, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state.”
Note: Ministers are also barred from holding office, because they “ought not to be diverted from the great duties of their functions; therefore, no minister of the Gospel, or priest of any denomination whatever, shall be eligible to a seat in either House of the Legislature,” according to article IX, section 1.
Texas
Article 1, section 4: “No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.”
Obviously, atheists are discriminated by those Constitutions. Challenge came from a case that a Maryland man appointed as a notary public have to declare his belief in a supreme being to hold office. In this case, Torcaso v. Watkins, 367 U.S. 488 (1961), the Supreme Court held that “this Maryland test for public office cannot be enforced against appellant, because it unconstitutionally invades his freedom of belief and religion guaranteed by the First Amendment and protected by the Fourteenth Amendment from infringement by the States.”
It is said that restrictions on atheist to hold public office haven’t been enforced since this Supreme Court ruling. In a post in Texas Monthly about the race for the Austin City Council seat in the newly-created District 4, the author commented on the action that circulated mailers with information about the religious beliefs of the two candidates. The author wrote:
Pressley (Candidate 1) is correct that the language is in the Texas Constitution, but that doesn’t mean that an atheist—which, it’s worth reiterating, Casar (Candidate 2) says he is not—is actually barred from holding office in Texas. Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, in the No Religious Test Clause, makes clear that restrictions like the one in Texas are unconstitutional.

Here are the points for you to discuss:
Are holders of public office subject to Title VII and related laws that prohibit religious discrimination?
What will you say if someone assert discrimination against atheists for positions in public office based on those Constitutions since they are still not modified and literally effective?
What will you say if an atheist claims disparate impact though you may tell him/her that the clauses in those constitutions would not be enforceable?

HOW CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTS BUSINESS
Climate Change Challenge Proposal
CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE:
HOW CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTS BUSINESS
The purpose of this individual climate change challenge is for you to obtain, firsthand, a closer look and understanding of the implications for business, society, and the world at large, in recognizing this reality. This project will make an attempt to summarize what is known about the causes, current impacts, and likely future consequences of climate change – if the world continues to ignore its state of severity. Through this project, you will have a chance to outline and debate about what should be done; and to explore the implications for the firm/organization and sector in the industry you choose.
Therefore, you would need to choose a company or non-profit organization whose operating model is already being significantly affected by climate change’s physical manifestations and/or related regulation, including threats and opportunities associated with mitigation and/or adaptation. Describe how the organization is directly affected, the steps the organization is taking (if any) to address those effects, and describe and justify what additional steps you think the organization should consider implementing. Finally, make recommendations on how they should implement the changes needed.
For an initial analysis of the phenomenon, read the article (Henderson et al, 2017) about the Climate Change Challenge required of Harvard MBA students, and then visit the additional link so that you can read some of their blogs that describe what companies and non-profits are (or aren’t) doing to address climate change. You will deliver a 5 pages document (including cover and abstract on same page, and last page as references for a total of 7 full pages), describing your proposal.
Visit the link below to obtain more ideas in order to get your project jump started. Enjoy the materials offered here.

Instructions: Recommended Report Outline
Cover Page with Title of Project, Author Name and Contact Info, and abstract.
Abstract (1/2 page max): Provide a brief, succinct statement of the purpose of your report, central issue, the methods of your data collection, and your key findings, conclusions, and recommendations. A good overview/abstract provides a clear synopsis of your recommendations and includes a very brief statement on methodology used to justify your conclusions. The overview condenses the entire report into a mini version for those who will not read the full report. Share an overarching question. Hint: Write this last.
Table of Contents is NOT Necessary, instead label your paper parts accordingly, i.e:
Brief Overview of Target Organization (1 page): What is the nature of the business or service provided by the organization? What is its history and mission? How is this organization being affected by climate change? Are Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being integrated in this firm? Are SDGs listed or presented in any of its CSR/Sustainability reporting? Are the SDGS being prioritized based on local demographic needs? More specifically: does the firm/organization have a diversity and inclusion program in place? Is gender equity being addressed? What is the female manager count? What does the ethical climate look like? How do managers address ethics at work? Please be very specific here.
Diagnose the Organization (2 pages): describe the climate change issue being faced by the focal organization; what the current strategic responsiveness have been, and any reported faces of change (Spector, 2013). If a sustainability program already in place, you can, in addition, draw on Benn et al (2019) Phase Models and Phases to understand where the organization is, in terms of integration models and level of engagement in CS.
Apply theory to practice (2 pages): Based on your theoretical analysis, what course of action do you recommend that the organization take? Which strategic responsiveness (see Spector, 2013; from Building a vocabulary of change, to key theoretical approaches from any or a variety of chapters in the book) would you suggest this organization follow? What recommendations do you offer to raise its gender equality, ethics and inclusive programs?
Conclusion and Next Steps (1 page): What do you foresee as the next steps the organization will need to make to move this project forward in the short term? What about the long term? What will be the major challenges and opportunities moving forward? Which phase model of integration do you now recommend the organization take, and why? (Benn et al 2019). Specifically, to the SDGs, which should be of concern to the firm/organization and why?

How did the Secret Barrister (2018) challenge your assumptions about the main risk factors which can give rise to misscarriages of justice?
Description
My piece of coursework is for my misscarriages of justice module in my 4th year at university.
The question is “ How did the Secret Barrister (2018) challenge your assumptions about the main risk factors which can give rise to misscarriages of justice?”.
For this piece of coursework you would need to read the full book and then complete the essay. The word count is 1650 (+/-10% leeway in word count) and It is to be in Harvard referencing style with heading and bibliography not included in the word count. I usually achieve in the mid 60s with my average being 63% so would like to achieve around this mark. I’ve attached a link to the book also: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Secret‑Barrister‑Stories‑Law‑Broken/dp/1509841148/ref=asc_df_1509841148/?tag=googshopuk‑ 21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310762413837&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8269425350764585503&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046928&hvtargid=pla‑ 687031468280&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
