For this assignment please consider a fictional society from literature, film, or television. The fictional society must demonstrate their reaction to an unlawful event or action either by an individual or group of individuals. Analyze the justifications given by the society for the punishments used and explain what punishment philosophy or philosophies the society is using. After you have explained which is being used, discuss whether you believe the philosophy or philosophies are working how they intended. Use examples from the film, book, or television work to justify your conclusion. Punishment philosophies can be found in the textbook on pages six through nine.

Example: (You may not use this example in your paper). This example does not cover all aspects of the assignment.
“In the television series Merlin created by the BBC located in the United Kingdom, Merlin is placed in the pillory for insulting and engaging in battle against Prince Arthur. While this society may be fairly accurate from a historical perspective, the television series and the Camelot society are largely considered fictional. By displaying Merlin in the stocks for all the townspeople to see, the society is enlisting both specific and general deterrence philosophies. General deterrence discusses using punishments as a way to deter or discourage others from acting in similar ways as the individual being punished by showing them the punishment that they may receive for committing the same or similar acts. Camelot is also using specific deterrence which is focused towards the individual being punished. Not only is Merlin being publically shamed and humiliated for his indiscretion, but the physical toll he is under may also persuade him from doing the same thing in the future.”
