About the digital strategy group project
The purpose of the Digital Strategy Project assessment is to give you hands-on exercise to develop your capability to plan, analyse, implement and review digital strategies; to practice strategic planning processes, methodologies and tools typically employed to produce a digital strategy that is well aligned to the needs of a business as well as emerging digital technologies and to understand “soft” issues in digital strategy development and implementation.
To complete this assignment, you will work as a team of consultants. The team should meet in between classes to develop a digital strategy using the tools and frameworks taught in the course. To complete the project:
- Select a case organisation
- Decide on the main theme of your Digital Strategy from the following:
–Digital Strategy for enhancing Customer Experience
–Digital Strategy for Digital Products
–Digital Strategy for Platforms
- The group’s report should be titled as:
“Digital strategy for “…..” organisation: “theme selected”, that is, either customer experience or platform or digitised product”.
- The report shall include but not limited to the following
1.Introduction
2.Digital strategic analysis
3.Defining digital strategic objectives and actions
4.Digital strategy implementation
5.Evaluation
6.List of evidence.
- This report should not be more than 2,500 words excluding list of evidence and appendix.
Digital strategic analysis – please reorganise the findings from the project plan
- Analysis of the current internal and external state of the business and its IT based on the theme and scope of your choice (use the feedback from 2a to update your analysis)
Defining digital strategic objectives and actions
– please use one of the following tools to define digital strategic objectives and the associated actions
- TOWS
–Formulate the TOWS matrix to generate digital strategic objectives
–Decide on no more than four digital strategic objectives appropriate for your case organisation and justify your recommendation
–For each of the digital strategic objectives of your choice, attempt to define at least two specific digital strategic actions to achieve the digital strategic objective
- Management by Maxims
–Considering the findings of your digital capability analysis and the business maxims, define no more than four digital strategic objectives (IT maxims)
–For each IT maxim, identify at least two strategic actions to achieve the IT maxim
Digital strategy implementation – week 8
- How will you go about implementing the digital strategy and implementing a digital mindset?
- What are the key implementation issues?
- How do you intend to handle the implementation issues?
- How do you ensure that your strategy delivers what it was intended to deliver?
Digital strategy evaluation – week 9
- How would you go evaluating the success of your digital strategy?
- What measures will you use? (These should be consistent with your strategic analysis and objectives/actions).
- Apply the balanced scorecard approach into your discussion: financial perspective, customer perspective, internal process perspective, learning and growth perspective
List of Evidence
- This can include both academic reference and other materials such as websites, company documents. If applicable you can include a list of people (can use pseudo-name) consulted including their job title, and personal correspondences that you have used to complete the interim report. The evidences should be cited in appropriate places in your report.
- All sources including models and frameworks must be cited.
