Airline Engineering and Maintenance Dept. organisation Assignment Individual Report
Select an Airline/MRO (Maintenance & Repair Organisation) either from the list appended below (legacy or new start-up) or an Airline/MRO of your choice. You need to review the Airline/MRO fleet of aircraft and the required maintenance activities in order to manage such requirements with most optimized manner (i.e. Cost effective).
The following deliverables must be achieved as a result of your research:
Identify and elaborate on the elements/factors that could affect the Airline maintenance strategy in view of essential maintenance requirement and current business environment (i.e. Political, Economic, Technological and Social- PEST) and possibly the SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). Maintenance strategy namely is with respect to either outsourcing or developing in-house Repair shops.
Identify those elements that could influence the Airline maintenance costs of the Aircraft and subsequent development of required maintenance organisation.
List down out of the four main levels of maintenance and discuss your views on what would be the most suitable level to start with that could yield the best possible optimised maintenance solution.
Review the overall possible MROs offerings in view of market trends and the impact on your decisions and views with regard to Engineering and Maintenance Department of the selected airline. Use Five Porter forces to identify competition parameters that might affect the competition edge of your selected Airline MRO.
Review the potential maintenance costs in view of the allocated airline budgets as stipulated in the financial statements (i.e. Balance sheets and Income statements). Accordingly, draw conclusions that support the best possible outsourcing / In-sourcing option for the airline.
Propose an organisation chart of this airline maintenance Dept similar to what we have studied in class. In other words, your proposed organisation should list the main heart of maintenance organisation required sections such as maintenance planning, technical services and materials management.
Review the selected Airline maintenance organisation required technical documentation, licencing and certification requirements that meet regulatory authorities’ requirements.
By evaluating the performance of the selected airline, generate a report that list down its maintenance strategies within the regional and global [1]markets that made this airline superior or contrary, draw conclusions of what each airline’s best maintenance practice and strategies that achieved an edge over others players in the industry.
Internet and relevant research material are considered useful reference for subject assignment. All trends and ideas drawn can be based on experts opinions but be careful to reference all of your sources. All used material, research studies, statements and financial figures should be referenced preferably using the Harvard referencing system.
Provide a set of recommendations and conclusions that summarise and support your research.
Additional marks will be awarded for proper interpretation of financial details and not just extracting and appending to the report. The report length is expected to be around 3500 words. Hand in date should be on 5th June 2017 on Turnitin with hard copy delivered separately to the instructor.
