Upon successful completion of this module, students will have demonstrated:

Knowledge 1. A critical appreciation of the political, social and economic forces involved in theplanning and development of the tourism and leisure industry

2. Synthesis of critical knowledge of the ways in which the forces identified in learningoutcome 1 are manifest in the actions of relevant stakeholder groups

3. Judgment of the impact of the forces and stakeholder actions identified in learningoutcomes 1 and 2 on the development of the tourism and leisure industry

. The ability to conduct secondary research on the tourism and leisure industry andcritically appraise the outcomes

2. The ability to apply socio‐political academic concepts to generate critical understanding of the nature of tourism and leisure planning and development and thenapply this critical understanding strategically.

Assessment 100% of the marks for this module are allocated on the basis of a written assignment. Some of the activities organised in class involve you working in groups to develop skills and knowledge that feed into the assignment. In addition, you are encouraged to visit the site thatthe assignment is based on and you are free to do this in groups. You may also find it helpfulto discuss the themes involved in the assignment in groups. However, the final written assignment is an individual piece of work and you must write it individually.

E. Evaluate how yourstrategy is going to benefit the residents and visitorssocially and economically.

– ways/means to be implemented

– possible benefits & results/improvements (in case the strategy is implemented)

Conclusion and Recommendations Provide an appropriate conclusion and substantial recommendations
