This course addressed the phenomenon of social change from multiple perspectives, drawing on both classical and modern philosophy. Distinctive aspects and dimensions of the phenomenon of change were highlighted in Heraclitus’s philosophical writings and Aristotle’s Metaphysics. You studied the impact of a philosophy that created a change in a country (Animal Farm/Russia), philosophies to address a major social injustice (civil rights movement) and lastly, political philosophies that impacted government operations.
You will now incorporate all that you learned into creating your final paper.
You will now assume the role of the philosopher/leader as you look to create an approach to address a social justice issue of your choice. You are welcome to use any one of the three identified in your last paper or something that is more pertinent to your belief.
The final paper will be comprised of these areas:
– Utilizing Heraclitus or Parmenides, (whomever you support) perspective, define the philosophy of change, its importance and relevance to the issue you are addressing.
– Referencing Aristotle -four stages of change, how did this issue come about or what caused it to occur (where did it come from), what is the extent/severity of the issue (what it’s made of), the potential a change can make (potentiality) and what would the end results of the change cause or indicate (actualization)
– Whose philosophy would you utilize to bring about the change: Malcolm X, Huey Newton, or MLK and why?
– Identify 3 strategies or objectives that you feel would bring about a change and why?
– Would you incorporate government assistance and why or why not?
