1.1 Background
The facilities and activities are designed with families in mind..
The main aim of the Centre is to improve life for children and adults alike, so
that they are happy, healthy and have an active lifestyle. The idea is to provide
a facility which can stimulate both play and active learning, through visual
and physical interaction with their environment , and hopefully support young
children in particular, in learning and developing new ideas.
Featuring a fun, brand new, play structure with a separate area for babies
and toddlers, an ICT suite for older children, an early learning and crafts
area and a cafe area, there is something for everyone!

2.1 MASSING DEVELOPMENT + PHASING
The diagram below illustrates the proposed massing development and demonstrates how the phasing of the
project can allow for additional containers to be ‘slotted in’ as necessary. By virtue of its pre-fabricated and
modular nature, the containers can be easily re-arranged and joined together as a ‘plug & play’ concept.

3.1 DESIGN APPROACH
1. ZONING
Our proposed design focuses upon a mid-size development using 6-7 containers. The idea is to have an identifable
approach to zoning, indicating public and private designated space. Public spaces and facilties will be located and
face towards the open area. The private spaces (Kitchen, Storage and Maintenance room) will be ideally located on
the rear side of the development with better access for service vehicles and in more secure locations.
2. SPATIAL ADJACENCIES + FLEXIBILITY
Ease of linking modules and connectivity between spaces is key. The open central area creates an opportunity for a
strong focal point, that is clearly visible and easily accessed from the adjacent modules, and also allows parents to
monitor their children playing.

3.2 Programmatic Section
The section below illustrates the proposed use of space withinthe playbox area. The idea is to priotise the variance in space
for the community, to use with clear sense of public and private zone area, and encourage all to access, walk through, explore
and generally make use of the activities within.
