Explain the impact of legislation in providing leadership in the organisation.

Your task this week is to research how leaders can influence individuals and groups. There is two parts to this weeks assessment:
Part 1
Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and groups to:
a) participate in consultations and decision making processes
b) contribute to innovation and improvements
c) achieve their responsibilities and objectives.
Part 2
Report on how you as a leader would facilitate consultative decision making processes and explain the resulting organisational change processes to the relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Part 1 (a)
Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and groups to participate in consultations and decision making processes
• Providing opportunities for employees and stakeholders’ participation in decision making with a variety of communication methods
• Empowering employees by involving them in decision making
• Particularly decisions that directly impact on operational aspects of the team
• Genuine commitment to the concept by both management and employees
• Empowerment is unlikely to work if it is perceived by leaders as undermining their power and position in the organisation
• Or If employees see it only as the leader ’off-loading’ work
Part 1 (b)
Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and contribute to innovation and improvements
• Encouraging feedback from employees by:
• Listening to suggestions, setting up meetings, formal and information interactions, emails, bulletin boards, face book, twitter, company newsletters and magazines
• Actions convey flexibility and adaptability to change
• Benchmarking is important as it allows an organisation to evaluate itself against other organisations
• Comparisons may be made against organisations in the same industry, or outside the industry sector
• Benchmarking allows the organisation to establish performance objectives and plans in order to raise performance levels
• Benchmarking provides employees the opportunity to ‘look outside’, an external perspective
Part 1 (c)
Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and achieve their responsibilities and objectives
– Resources such as people, technology, raw materials, equipment, machinery and finance
– Leaders’ constant awareness of timeframes
– Ensuring work units are adequately resourced commences with identifying what resources are needed to achieve the plan outcomes
– Gap analysis is used to compare what is needed against what is in place
– The leader must then determine how any gaps identified between these two will be resourced
– Resourcing is about quantity of resources
– Resourcing is about quality of resources
Part 2
Report on how you as a leader would facilitate consultative decision making processes and explain the resulting
organisational change processes to the relevant internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting an organisational culture that embraces concepts such as quality, continuous improvement, creativity and innovation, and where change is accepted as normal
• Employing individuals that embrace these values
• Reinforcing the culture through recognition and reward processes
• Ensuring communication and education processes effectively convey the reasons for changes
• Providing opportunities for employee input into change decisions, particularly those that significantly impact them personally
