Current Events Article Critique and Presentation
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to promote the students’ ability to read and analyze professional literature and research that is responsive to issues or challenges they are encountering in teaching students with special needs. This will make reading research easier in the future and provide you with essential information about instruction.
Task: Select an article from a current professional journal that is peer reviewed which is an empirical research study in instructional practices in teaching students with disabilities. If you are not sure if an article is empirical research, bring it in to be checked by the professor. Use APA style for the references. Summarize the selection using the headings listed below. Discuss the practical classroom applications of the content of the article. Give your own evaluation of the article in the critique section. In evaluating the article you might decide if the research was well carried out, was the sample size large enough and did the research address the original research questions. The length is not to exceed two pages, double spaced. The practical applications and the critique should be the longest and most thoughtful parts of the paper.
Prepare five minute presentation to share your findings with the class on our course Blackboard website.
You will also lead a short 5-minute recorded discussion on your article and the relevance it has for today’s teachers. Presentations will take place throughout the semester. Articles must be original and cannot be presented twice throughout the semester. In addition to presenting your assignment, you will submit a written summary and critique of the article.
