Week 4 Assignment
Neuropsychology looks at the link between the brain and behavior. Understanding neuropsychology allows a person in the field of mental health to understand how damage or illness to the brain impacts behavior and allows for insight into working with individuals who may have had a traumatic brain injury or stroke.
Imagine you work for a neuropsychologist with patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or Huntington’s disease. You have been asked to educate the patients and their family members about the diseases.
Select either Parkinson’s disease or Huntington’s disease as your topic, and research information about the disease.
Please be sure to include some scholarly peer-reviewed research studies found in the library. Do not base all information on information from websites designed to educate the general public (i.e., Mayo Clinic, etc.).
Create an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation in which you address the following for the selected disease:
Describe the disease.
Describe the symptoms of the condition and provide an overview of how it impacts an individual who has it.
Describe the roles and functions of the human nervous and endocrine systems in relation to the disease.
Discuss issues related to the nervous system and endocrine system that lead to symptoms.
Explain why the disease interrupts an individual’s ability.
Discuss the symptoms that interrupt an individual’s ability to function.
Describe the behaviors that are typically exhibited following the onset of the disease.
Discuss behaviors associated with the disease.
Describe the deficits typically seen because of the disease.
This is a continuation of a discussion of symptoms.
Describe treatment options available for individuals with the disease.
Provide a thorough discussion of ALL treatment options. Please do not list “medications”. List specific medications and provide a citation showing that they are effective. Note you do not want to only list treatments that lead to a cure (i.e., don’t say there are no treatments to cure the disease). List treatments use to manage symptoms.
Explain the current research findings related to outcomes of the disease.
For this you will need to integrate information from a scholarly peer-reviewed research study. You will receive zero credit for this objective if you do not.
Include detailed speaker notes on each slide.
Note your notes need to be written, not audio recorded.
Cite your sources according to APA guidelines.
You should have at least one citation on each slide that contains information that you researched. Note citations are not just for quotations. You should not have a reference that you did not cite in the body of the paper.
