Apply a critical understanding of the ongoing impact of colonising processes, including social work’s role, on the contemporary experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Critically analyse and explain the processes through which the ongoing oppression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is perpetuated.

Task
You will provide a critical analysis of a contemporary issue experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, represented in Australian electronic and press media. A range of topics are provided from the list below.

You will find engaging with the prescribed reading helpful in positioning yourself to undertake this assignment. Your critical analysis needs to encompass consideration of the ongoing impacts of colonisation, racism and cultural safety.
The assignment is to be approached as an academic, critical essay, and should include an introduction body and conclusion. The essay should also include critical analysis and reference to scholarly literature and at least 10 media items that relate to the issue. The media items must be appropriately referenced using the QUT APA referencing system. Media items may include written press, electronic and social media. Thematic subheadings may be used. The marking criteria and weighting are outlined in the CRA.
