Prompts
Read “Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore” by Aisha Harris: https://slate.com/human-interest/2013/12/santa-claus-an-old-white-man-not-anymore-meet-santa-the-penguin-a-new-christmas-symbol.html
Your major post should contain four paragraphs:
1. Given the sensitivity of race/ethnicity, gender, and other social markers of identity issues in a current cultural environment, should Santa Claus remain a White man, or should his appearance be changed? Provide your arguments; start with the strongest.
2. Provide at least three arguments to support your opinion. Elaborate on each of the arguments.
3. Imagine, that you are hired to manage the Santa area in the Woodlands Mall (or whatever store/facility near you has a Santa area during the Holiday season), and you have on your desk applications from candidates of various races, ethnicities, genders, and other demographics to perform as Santa. Who should you choose and why? Are there any factors you need to consider in addition to those in paragraph 2? Observe whether your arguments are anyhow different from those in paragraph 2 when you were thinking abstractly, not linked to any particular situation.
4. Reflect on your findings.
Do not include the above prompt questions in your post, just break the post into paragraphs.
