NUR 648 Course Topic Selection for Developing a Lesson Plan JIU

Chronic diseases present challenges to nurses and the healthcare system due to the strain they place on patients and their families, nurses and other healthcare providers, and the health system at all levels, from local to federal. As such, the management of chronic diseases that include chronic pain requires effective nursing interventions to improve the quality of life for those affected by these conditions. Nursing interventions to manage chronic diseases are essential in reducing the burden and healthcare costs associated with the conditions. Existing studies demonstrate the critical role of nursing interventions in managing these conditions. In their systematic review of randomized controlled trials, Tao et al. (2022) explore how nurse-led virtual interventions help improve outcomes and support patients with evidence-based self-care and efficacy strategies to enhance the quality of life. Again, Hamel et al. (2022) demonstrate ways and strategies that nurses in various countries can support chronically-ill patients to support themselves and improve the quality of life.

Further, Chan (2021) explores self-efficacy and quality of life components in chronic disease management, underscoring the critical role of nurses and other healthcare providers. Therefore, this topic is essential as the prevalence of chronic conditions rises and increases the demand for nurses and other cadres of healthcare practitioners, yet there is a chronic shortage of providers. As such, nursing interventions like education, demonstrating self-efficacy, and helping patients navigate the disease process are essential and form the basis of selecting this topic (Billings & Halstead, 2015). Strategies like self-management initiatives, home visits, telehealth services, and collaborative and coordinated care are nursing interventions that students must understand and apply once in practice and clinical settings.
