The overall goal of the reflection unit is for you to really think about how much you have learned this semester about being a writer and about the paper writing process.
This first goal then is for you to discover that you have improved your metacognitive understandings of writing. As you write this final piece, clearly consider the work you have done throughout the semester. The goal is that even if you do not feel any different, you will discover that your understandings of the writing process have improved.
The second goal of this assignment is that it serves as your final exam for the semester. In some sense then, it is testing you to see what you have learned about producing a paper. This paper should show what you have learned by representing what you know about paper organizational structure as well as paper formatting and editing.
Reflection Assignment Description:
There are two approaches to this assignment, and you may choose the one that fits your way of thinking about your writing processes the best. You will see that each of them is essentially asking you to consider your writing process from the very beginning of receiving a paper assignment to the point of having the paper ready to hand in. (You do not need to describe your handing in the paper.) The assignment is only asking about your writing process—but remember thinking and planning are part of your writing process.
Approach Two: Consider the scenario of your getting a new paper assignment at this point in the semester. Describe the processes that you would go through to write that paper from the time of receiving the assignment, to planning the body paragraphs (including topic sentences), to planning the intro and conclusion, etc. to the time of turning it in. Explain your reasons for doing the things you would do.
