Introduction:
A great tool that helps to encourage early learning in young children is the digital camera. Digital cameras provide children with the opportunity to capture their world as an image/picture. They provide the ability to document their creative work, the activities of their peers, and objects around them. They are a manipulative tool that engages and displays the power of a thousand words.
The Assignment:
Develop a list of 3 activities for digital camera use that support language and literacy with preschool children and assist in creating a print rich environment. The activities can focus on the child using the digital camera independently or with assistance from the teacher. A classmate might take the photo or maybe parents will be involved:) Each strategy will be documented in the following format:
Format layout: 3 separate scenarios
Scenario One:
Digital Camera Strategy That Supports Early Language and Literacy: (here is where you introduce your strategy: a minimum of 5 sentences)
Description of how the activity supports language and literacy: (minimum of 3 sentences)
Include an NCFELD goal from the domain: Language Development and Communication that supports each of the five activities. (1 goal for each activity) Here is an example of a goal from this domain: Goal LDC-9: Children comprehend and use information presented in books and other print media.
**the same format should be used for scenarios two and three and at the end of your submission should be your summary paragraph.
Summary:  In a separate summary paragraph, minimum of 7 sentences, reflect on how the teacher supports early language and literacy through the use of digital cameras in the classroom. Include in your summary why it is important to take the time to teach children the basic etiquette of digital camera use. Please reference information from the article Digital Camera Delights in your summary.

Maximum points are given when:
Three examples of digital camera activities that support early language and literacy are listed and included with each scenario is:
1.  a detailed description digital camera activity (10 points for each)
2.  a detailed description of how the activity supports language and literacy (10 points for each)
3.  a NCFELD goal from the domain: Language Development and Communication is included (10 points for each)
Summary paragraph is included- minimum of 7 sentences (0-20 points)
Points are deducted for errors with grammar and spelling. Grading will also reflect use of basic English skills such as the use of complete sentences when writing
