Iwakura mission? In the readings by Lin Zexu (Tse-hsü), Feng Guifen, Wei Yuan, how are the authors
describing the West? How are their observations differ from those of the members of the Iwakura mission?
Or, as an alternative, answer to one general question: what kind of Western ideas/phenomena/structures
caught the attention of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean reformers, intellectuals, and legislators? What were
they interested in? And why?
