What is a behavioral treatment model?
A treatment model proposes that the way an individual views, appraises, or perceives events around himself/ herself is what dictates their subsequent emotional responses and behavioral choices. Behavioral therapy is rooted in the principles of behaviorism, a school of thought focused on the idea that we learn from our environment.
Behavioral therapy is an umbrella term for types of therapy that treat mental health disorders. This form of therapy seeks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It functions on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy behaviors can be changed. Behavioral therapy is used to describe a broad range of techniques used to change maladaptive behaviors. The goal is to reinforce desirable behaviors and eliminate unwanted ones.
