The Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report identified four central recommendations to advance the nursing profession and health care: (1) Nurses function at their full extent of knowledge and education, (2) nurses become active at the decision-making table, (3) there must be seamless academic progression for nurses to advance within the educational system, and (4) adequate and reliable data are required to advance health care.
