On youtube watch: CNBC’s Why China Loves Buick

Directions: read the following short articles, watch the video, and listen to the podcast and then answer the questions. Use at least 3 sources.

1) What were some of the key motivations for GM to invest into the Chinese market? Why did they not just export cars from the US?  What made GM successful?

2)  What were some of the modifications GM had to make to be successful in China? Hint: think not just product offerings, but how and where they sell and market their products.

3)  Doing your own research, find an example or two of  a major corporation that has done FDI into a host country. Was it successful? If so why, if not, why not? How is their situation similar or different to the GM joint venture in China?
