Like Walt Whitman, Hughes has also been described as a “Confessional Poet.” Hughes has also been described as and a “Blues Poet.” To what extent would you agree, as Hughes is reported to have once done or said, that the “Harlem Poet Laureate” was, indeed, the “Literary Grandson” of Whitman? Explain some similarities and differences that you recognize between the poetry of Hughes and Whitman.
