Identify the other communities you examined.
Explain why you chose the communities and how they are comparable to your community.
Create spreadsheets or similar documents showing the pay for those communities, including their average pay increases over a time period of at least 5 years prior to your proposed 2 year contract. For example, if you are looking for a 2020-21 contract, you should try to acquire data for 2015-21 for all the cities.
Identify where you got the data (from who and how).
Compare your community’s average wage increase over the time period to the other communities.
Include in your proposal the CPI (Consumer Price Index) changes during all years involved.
Explain what pay increase you are proposing for your city and why.
You may want to start this project soon so you have time to get copies of wage data and labor contracts. I have included a mock letter you can edit to request data from communities. You can also ask me for files as I may have many of them. You should also check the individual community websites for electronic links to the data.
