Self-Evaluation: I am of the view that traditional grade metrics and evaluative structures impede crucial aspects of the learning process. Much research demonstrates that student retention and critical thinking skills are deepened by collaboration in the learning and evaluative process. To that end, I expect each of you to be conscious of the work and effort you expend in our course, and to participate in the assessment of your final grades. Each of you should submit two written self-evaluations (one midway through and one at the end of the semester) that both narrates the work you completed for each component of your grade, and qualitatively evaluates it, including a discussion of ways you may have challenged yourself or been challenged by the course, as well as how you met or struggled to meet those challenges.
