You must discuss the question or thesis of your essay with your module leader in advance by email. This is a research essay – you are expected to discuss your chosen film texts with reference to the historical context of their production and exhibition, and be able to draw on relevant scholarly writings and debates. The essay should offer a blend of textual analysis and contextual information. Obviously it should be about an aspect of Film History in the period between 1895-1930. However you are not limited to topics which we have covered in class.
