Objective To provide you with an opportunity to know about statistical analysis of Australian and international market data to interpret international market trends and developments.
1. What is statistical analysis used for?

  1. Identify the three statistical analysis techniques.
  2. How does Australian market data differ from international market data?
  3. How should you go about interpreting market trends and developments?

    Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify the need to analyse trends and developments within Australia and relevant international settings for their potential impact on international business activity within target market.
    1. Identify four types of trends that may occur in business and what these are.
  4. What are market developments and how may these occur?
  5. What three steps should you follow to set up a trend analysis system?
  6. Identify four factors that can impact on trends and developments in international business within your target market.

    Objective To provide you with an opportunity to know how to identify aspects of culture that may impact international business activity within target market.

Identify and research two cultural differences that may be encountered when attempting to set up an office and work in Japan, and their effects on the Weller Entertainment’s business.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to use measures of central tendency/dispersion and correlations between sets of data for quantitative interpretation of comparative international market data.
Refer to Case Study B.

  1. Using the ratings statistics for Outback Ridge, you must:

 Find the measures of central tendency using all three methods (mean, mode and median) for each country’s ratings
 Find the measures of dispersion for each country’s ratings by using the following techniques:
o standard deviation
o range
o mean difference between both countries.

  1. From the rating statistics, identify three correlations or trends across both of the data sets and provide a brief outline of what these are.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to perform qualitative analysis of comparative international market information as a basis for reviewing business performance in international settings.

  1. Name three methods that you could use to analyse comparative international market qualitative information for a review of international business performance.
  2. Using one of the analysis techniques from question one, analyse the feedback of Outback Ridge from Japanese viewers, and compare that to the feedback from Australian viewers.

    Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to analyse international market performance of existing and potential competitors and their products or services to identify potential opportunities or threats.

Using a form of competitor analysis, analyse the information about Weller Entertainment’s competition, identifying any potential opportunities or threats. State the analysis method you’ve chosen in your answer.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to compare international business performance to that of competitors to identify market position.

  1. Which of the statistics provided could be used to identify the market position of the three companies?
  2. Using the statistic identified in question one, compare international business performance of Weller Entertainment with its Japanese competitors and identify its market position in Japan.  
    Activity 3A
    Estimated Time 30-40 Minutes
    Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to prepare, plot and interpret data for visual presentation.
    Refer to Case Study B.
  3. Identify three ways that the ratings data from both countries could be visually presented in a way so that they could be compared easily.
  4. Create a graph of the ratings data, featuring both data sets. The graph must a line graph and include:

 Markers for each datapoint
 Different styles/colours for each country’s data
 Labels on each axis
 A graph title
 A legend box indicating which data sets are from which country
 A clear and concise visual style.

Objective To provide you with an opportunity to identify how to assess visual presentation for potential problems and take corrective action if necessary.
