Within this task you must address all four learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate your critical understanding of the legislation, policy, theory and research evidence underpinning social work practice in relation to your chosen case scenario (LO1)
  • Critically reflect on the use of self and professional identity in relation to working with service users, particularly with reference to the chosen case scenario (LO2)
  • Examine the skills required to work with services users where there are tensions between care and control (LO3)
  • Discuss the ethical and value conflicts that can arise, with reference where appropriate to the SSSC codes of practice (LO4)

You should give a very brief summary of the case scenario to which your reflective account relates (as a guideline – 100 words max).

Knowledge

  • A thorough knowledge and critical understanding of the relevant legislation, policy, theory and research evidence underpinning social work practice in relation to the chosen case scenario.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of relevant theories and concepts relating to use of self and professional identity in social work practice.
  • Knowledge of appropriate theoretical and/or evidence based skills required to work with service users where there are tensions of care and control.

Generic Cognitive Skills

  • Initiative, originality and creativity, such as the ability to develop ideas and concepts through rational argument underpinned by evidence-based research.
  • An appreciation of the importance of relevant approaches and the ability to synthesise material and offer new interpretations and insights.
  • To be able to search for and select appropriate information and literature, and appraise these effectively

Practice: Applied knowledge and understanding

  • Ability to critically reflect on what use of self personally means for you and your own professional identity, examining how this impact your understanding and engagement with service users.
  • Ability to examine the skills required to work with service users where there are tensions of care and control.
  • Ability to identity and discuss the ethical and value conflicts that can arise
